So far, I really like BlueSky. Much more than I ever liked Twitter. Twitter was always skewed towards the mean, the underhanded, the snarky, the bitchy, the basest of human behaviours. It rewarded crappy behaviour. BlueSky seems like it’s attracting all the decent adults. At least for now.

I should say that I'm in the lucky position of...never being a fan. Just didn't do it for me. That doesn't make me special but it's pretty easy for me to go "goodbye forever" to Neil fucking Gaiman.

The war will end
The leaders will shake hands
That old woman will wait for her martyred son
That girl will wait for her beloved husband
And those children will wait for their heroic father
I do not know who sold our homeland
But I saw who paid the price

Neil Gaiman is as sh*tty of a human being as he is a writer.

Never liked his books.

My hopes for the next few years rest entirely on these horrible men having very funny fallings out, being too incompetent to effectively do all the evil and, if we’re really lucky, simply dropping dead

While we’re banning books…

Finland is teaching children in school how to recognize fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility. Some of this will seem very familiar.

Ok it seems GFM does have pretty good checks and balances incl not releasing payments to sus accounts, and refunding donor money in that case. Thanks to everyone who responded constructively to this (I did see that one unnecessarily snarky post about this, I hope you can be a nicer person in 2025 🫶🏼)
A genuine question: a LOT of gofundme requests purportedly from/for people in Gaza are appearing on my feed, reposted by people I follow. How do you know these are genuine? I tried to follow the trail on one and it led to a guy living in a Minneapolis apartment.

The pinned information on @mommunism’s profile is helpful, and she shares a lot of requests by people that she herself has verified, by video chatting, etc. Gaza Vetters has a list of verified fundraisers as well, as does the Butterfly Effect Project. :)

Friendly reminder that on #Bluesky, it is REPOSTING that matters.

The likes are nice, but without an algorithm, reposting is how more people see things.

The one thing that good-intentioned folks don’t seem to get is that the more you talk about the bad-intentioned folks, the more attention, and therefore POWER you are handing to them — which entirely defeats the purpose. Learn to ignore the trolls.

Why am I so interested in South Korea? Because this is the state of politics, and journalism, where I live:
Keir Starmer's spokesman says the PM was "surprised" to hear Kemi Badenoch condemn sandwiches and say she "has a steak brought in for lunch" instead.

Says Starmer "is quite happy with the sandwich lunch," which he describes as a "Great British institution"

Says he likes a "tuna sandwich or toasty"
