He/him. Gay guy from London, very ex-physicist, into all kinds of science and geeky stuff. Left wing, when's the fully automated luxury communism arriving?
How do astronomers do it? I mean, how do they cope with the immensity of the scale of time and space and not go stark, raving mad?!
Here's another deep field image from JWST.

There's something pretty amazing hidden within it, which I'll talk about next.

But open up this image and lose yourself in this almost impossibly vast view of our Universe.

The world is changing and needs science more than ever.

If that doesn't move you, the US just shit the bed and now it's basically Europe vs China in terms of basic science

But, sure. Let's just stop funding it, won't kick us in the geopolitical or climate change balls AT ALL

The technological speed up in #ForAllMankind is huge, and shown in a couple of subtle ways

For example, Tracy's tv interview from the shuttle via encrypted link in early 80s

Cameras weren't that small, and encryption was soooo slow at the time (had real world implications during one near-disaster)

Calling transphobia a 'gateway drug' to the far right undersells it. It's pure accelerant. Grimly fascinating to guess what crankery becomes any famous transphobe's secondary obsession, cos they all have one: 15 minute cities are fascism! Grok noncing is cool! ICE are good! We should kill all dogs!
