When I started writing my current novel it was always going to be set in a bleak (but not apocalyptic) future. As I continue to write it now with an unpredictable and incomprehensible fascist dictator leading a major western superpower, I wonder if my bleak but hopeful future could come to pass?

I think I'm going to stop waking up to BBC radio 4's Today programme. On the back of Trump's illegal arresting of a head of state apparently he now wants to take Greenland (by force if necessary). He is no worse than the Venezuelan leader he has just deposed.

Don't read too much into the wiped CCTV footage as an inside job. They said it was a new system put in in the last year – it'll be digital and probably WiFi connected. Some low life could hack in and do the dead... #TheArchers

So Trump can find it within himself to take out a corrupt leader of a foreign country when there's the opportunity to "drill baby drill" for oil, but he won't send in the special forces to take Putin in his PJs and arrest him?

How do children explore and discover their musical selves (and make those embarrassing musical mistakes) without being first granted an internet connected device. Even if you do listen to the radio it's not like they have anything to tape things onto.

I grew up in the country, and within spitting distance of numerous farms. The son of one farmer went to my primary school. Otherwise, to this day, who it was that lived on and ran these farms remains a complete mystery to me. #TheArchers
