One of the hardest things to do is bring campaign-level communications to the work of governance, and snowstorms are notoriously one of the biggest litmus tests that less-engaged voters use to judge mayoral administrations. This is an excellent way to communicate.

Calling ICE “law enforcement” is technically true and completely beside the point. Enforcing a law does not make that law just, and it does not excuse what is done in its name. Pretending otherwise is cowardice.

I’m so angry and upset about the second shooting in Minnesota this morning. Horrified that the federal government is causing unnecessary and cruel suffering with the thinnest of pretense.
I’m personally frustrated that we have limited ways to channel that into helpful action. Ideas?

I’m deep into a Mad Men rewatch and just got to the episode where Kennedy was shot. They went to great pains to show that even for Republicans it was a moment of deep sadness and reflection as a Nation. Of course Kennedy never told anyone to “shut up, Piggy” on a hot mic.

MLK said not to equate the passing of laws to moral progress, and ending segregation didn’t end racism. He wanted White Americans to actively reeducate themselves and participate in justice for all BECAUSE he knew nothing would change without participation of those that benefit most from the system.

Here’s the thing: Even if you believe international intervention is needed in another country then great, let’s use the democratic process to do something about it. We’ve replaced the whole thing with shooting from the hip and that’s not democracy. That’s street justice with no accountability.
