I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course these past few years has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

Assad has left Damascus, say senior army officers; Syria rebels say they are in capital
Insurgents gained control after only a day of fighting, leaving President Bashar al-Assad's 24-year rule dangling by a thread as rebels marched on Damascus.

Yes! It's why I've been cautioning so much against fatalism.

Those doom-posting about how law is meaningless and he's just going to throw everyone in camps are giving up before the game has even begun. We aren't there yet — but the chances of that happening in the future go up if you stop trying.
“Saying “No, it’s over! Don’t be so naive!” [is] really just rolling out a red carpet, the ultimate capitulation in advance. At the very least, put him to the task. Make him execute on what he’s trying to do. That’s the first role of a political opposition.” 👇

The New Deal actually offers a model here. Its architects saw democracy and prosperity as intricately intertwined and, moreover, knew they had to *promote* the idea that they were connected.
the challenge is building out an alternative cultural story that connects prosperity to solidarity and democracy. that *convinces* people that you can be a success without climbing over others. i don’t know where that will come from! i think it is something that you’ll ultimately have to find.

Kind of fun that after all this talk of democracy the justices basically amended the constitution by judicial fiat

Been trying to think of what I woulda done with $44 billion aside from destroying a perfectly good company and tbh I’m having a hard time even figuring out how to make a dent in that total

We are the elect and chosen few and all the rest are damned
There’s room enough on Twitter for you we don’t want BlueSky crammed
The end of Twitter is basically the rapture in which the pure and worthy and lifted into the BlueSky while the guilty and the sinful are left upon the rotting earth of Twitter to witness the coming of the antichrist
