Many of the hard divisions and perceptions in politics are not defined in your belief systems, but your identities. Dwelling further in them will not only make you believe you're right as you go further down the rabbit hole, but also make others hate you more, validating you. A vicious cycle indeed.

One big issue with identity on social media is misdirection of intent - content posted targeting a certain identity group from your personal exp is often read by nice people in your own circle who fall in that identity.
Ends up creating a new set of haters and reinforcing your beliefs.
