Many of the hard divisions and perceptions in politics are not defined in your belief systems, but your identities. Dwelling further in them will not only make you believe you're right as you go further down the rabbit hole, but also make others hate you more, validating you. A vicious cycle indeed.

When you suffer a bad experience and claim 'all people belonging to this group are trash', it also shuts out people who may have similar stories. The silence from their end in fact reinforces you to think oh I'm right
