Arguing with capitalists and all they can do is tell you how capitalism works, not why it’s good or sufficient or necisary.

Me feeling depressed: what if I tried taking a multivitamin? Maybe that’s what I need?

What right wing masculinity gets wrong is that while I DO want to be a hero, I DO NOT want to be a man. THANK YOU

It’s actually very easy to subvert and eventually overthrow every currently existing power structures that our society is based on. Why do you ask?

If there is a technical solution to climate change, it’s going to be in the form of institutions and infrastructure that allow for democratization and decentralization. The solution to climate change are not technical tweaks, but there are certainly technical aspects to the social solutions we need.

No actually, I don’t think that the biggest transphobes and homophobes are secretly in the closet. I don’t think homophobia and transphobia are the fault of queer people. I think the cis/hets are more than capable of being terrible on their own.

Chairman Mao, you say that women hold up half the sky, but have you considered that men hold up the other half?

I have been back on this app for a few hours and people are having nonsensical arguments about flags in my timeline

I’m back on this app and also my appointment to hopefully get on HRT got moved up to early April! Less than a month away now!

I go to the same place for lunch almost every day to the point that they all know my order. I’m not sure if the menu changed at some point, but I’m realizing that I make my order in a slightly convoluted way that costs me 75 cents more than it should. I’m too scared to change lol

Slightly late New Year’s resolution, but I’ve been waking up earlier and going to work earlier so that I can leave earlier. I forgot how much I loved sunsets when I was previously more of a morning person. Love me a peachy little cloud

“I want an expert to handle this…”

Well the experts aren’t handling it

In many ways, I’ve avoided a lot of psychic damage just by having accepted that we are tumbling towards fascism and that none of this is working long term regardless. The outcome of the election did not change my long term prospects for the world.

Dealing with coming out in this current state of things leads to me having just wild fluctuations between wanting to run right back into the closet, and wanting to order DIY HRT and go full bore as fast as possible despite any and all consequences. Hard to consider an in between at this point.

I remember a time in high school, early college, when I was first studying engineer, where I felt such a strong sense of techno-optimism, that we’d solve all of our problems through a liberal scientific humanism, and that we’d be mining asteroids and living in space before I’d reach retirement age.

The energy code in Iowa is a joke. A lot of very important stuff is just not enforced, and certainly not followed, not even understood by a lot of engineers. Not to mention that we are still on the 2012 energy code… that’s 13 years out of date with no plan to update any time soon.

I’m considering going back to school at some point for anthropology or some related field though, so…

If you drive into a city every day for work, you don’t live a rural lifestyle, you live a suburban, maybe exurban lifestyle. This is true even if you drive a truck, wear cowboy boots sometimes, or keep goats for your kids so they can compete in 4-H

I think this is what the future of a lot of our historic downtown buildings should be. Not demolition and replacement with new concrete and steel, not frozen in amber. We can create climate friendly, high quality housing with rooftop additions.

Capitalism can’t survive without fossil fuels. Like many things, we can maybe imagine a theoretical world where it can, but we need to brush over so many of the basic logics of capitalism, the reasons capitalism latched onto fossil fuels so strongly and early in its history.

It’s a vital part of my understanding of the world that having any level of capital ownership or other power just makes the whole world become completely illegible in any meaningful way. Just makes people’s sense of reality completely fall apart. Everyone from an Elon Musk to a small business owner.

I goofed and had my audiobook of Capital Vol 1 playing out loud on my phone speakers while I was away from my desk in an open office lol

I think these people were always opportunistic grifters, and it’s not so much that they are the audience to a rightward shifting discourse, but that they have shifted their audience in a more convenient, rightward shifting direction. They are seeking an audience and go where that audience is.
It's crazy watching the Vox Boys and their hanger-ons refuse to leave Twitter and slowly shift their views towards anti-vax conspiracy theorists and far-right anti-woke creeps, since that's mostly who they're talking to

Parents don't have rights over children. Children have rights to family life and to freedom from violence and abuse.
"Corporal punishment is probably one of the top parental rights that [the Home School Legal Defense Association] focuses on the most."
US homeschooling leaders advocate for corporal punishment
America’s homeschooling movement also has links to groups that oppose women’s and LGBTQ+ rights
