Couldn’t think of a better first post than this team photo from our Annual Krueckeberg Doctoral Conference @bloustein.rutgers.edu! Grateful to have been part of the organizing committee. I learned so much from these amazing colleagues - Sophia @sewfox.bsky.social and Yu @yuw97.bsky.social!! 😄
After a week where I felt like the pit of despair in my stomach kept sinking deeper, it seems especially valuable to reflect on some actions and moments of joy and rejuvenation.

The REST Act will empower local officials to keep their communities affordable by making it easier to opt into rent stabilization AND allowing localities to expand who is covered.

There are different approaches to *more* chairs, though.
We don't have to play a game. We don't have to concede to a competition between advantage (privilege) and (systemic) disadvantage where we provide more choice to the privileged and hope that trickles down to everyone getting a seat.

Another way to think about housing supply is as a game of musical chairs with some people who have advantages (eg, speed, wealth) and some who are disadvantaged (eg, slower, poorer).
With fewer chairs than people, slower folks end up losing out. With *more* chairs than people, everyone gets a seat.
