A druggable copper-signalling pathway that drives inflammation - Nature
Cellular uptake of copper(ii) by CD44 has a key role in regulating cellular plasticity via copper(ii)-dependent downstream signalling events.

I’m thankful that the MN State Legislature expanded access to MinnesotaCare in 2023.

My dad has been able to receive cancer treatment and healthcare as a result of this. It’s been a blessing.

Unfortunately, there’s a real threat that this will be gutted during the last few days of session. 1/

Activation of lysosomal iron triggers ferroptosis in cancer - Nature
Some cancer cells exhibit high loads of reactive iron in lysosomes, and this feature is exploited by using fentomycin-1, a newly developed small molecule, to induce ferroptosis.

Our team (hsph.harvard.edu/research/ube...) is excited to have contributed to the intranodal in vivo testing of the remarkable new compound, Fentomycin-1. Congrats to team Rodriguez et al. for the implications of this work in targeting ferroptosis in cancer. Check it out here!

Excited to see our N&V w/ @mikelangelipid.bsky.social published in Nature, highlighting new work from Raphael Rodriguez and team. A heterofunctional molecule that activates lysosomal iron triggers lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis in therapy-resistant cancer cells. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Lipid-degrading small molecule kills cancer cells by ferroptosis
A molecule designed to activate iron locked up in organelles called lysosomes and thereby induce cell death might offer a way to tackle treatment-resistant cancer.
