I know families that have used all their savings to take their autistic kids out of the country to dodgy "stem cell treatment centers" or put their kids through chelation etc
Even benign therapies like music, equine, aquatics charge $$$ for autistic kids.
There's so much guilt for not doing enough.

I've said for years that fearmongering about and around autism doesn't just hurt #ActuallyAutistic people: It hurts their parents. It leads them down rabbit holes and expensive "treatments" and if they don't spend on them, they are stigmatized as bad parents.

As someone who grew up in India when many people were still begging for vaccines (I helped in rural vax clinics, saw sights I won't ever forget), I never thought in 2025 it would be hard to get vaxed in a "developed" country. Glad to live in RI, where I still can.
