As many of you have heard on the news, my beloved mountain community of Altadena has been delivered a tragic blow. My family and I are safe, which is most important. Any love sent to our town would be second. It helps.

2024: the year of my debut novel, DOE RUN. Thanks to the many--friends, strangers, bookstores, libraries--who've picked up a copy, I hope the time was well worth it! And if you haven't read yet--there's always 2025!

Drove to L.A. on the spur of a whim, yesterday... two hours with no A/C in my truck (one star, do not recommend) to see Scott Phillips. Bonus: bumped into Starlite Pulp homie Sean Jacques. A great Q&A by a fine writer and a swell human. Five stars, highly recommended.

Had a grand time reading at "Noir in the Boneyard" at the 29 Palms Book Festival... a small DNA swab from my short, 'Blood in the Water.' I forget who took this shot... if you know, say the word.

The first became familiar with Rob via Needle Mag, then Thug Lit, and of course in Shotgun Honey. All great stuff. But you know what sold me? The Last Safe Place, a zombie novella of all things. It showed me Rob had range. That he could bend a story across genres. I'm a fan.
Over at Open Secrets Magazine I talked about stuff we're not supposed to talk about as authors: What happens when that splashy book deal doesn't work out and you get dropped by your publisher.

For SoCal Book Readers -- come on out to the desert and dig this. Going to be a good time, away from the anxiety of this week's death nail.
