Something I was not expecting to read in Shunsaku Tamiya’s autobiography was 4 pages about his trip to Israel in 1968 to see a Soviet T34 tank captured in the 6 Day War. A lot of the book is about the efforts he went to for research so that Tamiya models are accurate. A passionate perfectionist

On 17 January 1942 the Halfaya garrison surrendered. In popular lore it is mostly linked to Major Bach, CO of I./S.R.104, the fighting pastor, who was to die as a POW. In reality however it was commanded by General Fedele de Giorgis, GOC 55 Savona Infantry Division.

As a general note, I am really happy to help academic and other researchers and/or consult. I have over 20 years amassed a substantial archive covering the desert and Mediterranean war, not just Operation CRUSADER, covering all major participants and land, sea and air warfare.

it improved over time, to the point of very close cooperation. This culminated in things like German personnel serving in active roles (like anti-aircraft gunners and sonar operators) aboard Italian warships and merchant vessels. Many thanks to @crusaderproject.bsky.social for help with this piece.
