One of the rad-est things that has ever happened is Motoi Sakuraba opening the arranged version of 'Blood on the Keys' like it's a slow ballad version for 20 seconds before going 'nah' and doing it full tempo on piano with bass and drum accompaniment.

I get that they want to use production value and tell stories beyond "just" wrestling but there's a point where guys are in a race to discover the hidden treasure of Atlantis and I'm both not sure why wrestling is happening and even the suggestion of danger feels laughable.

Like, not only do I not believe anything dangerous is going to happen, half the time I'm not sure how the conflict in question involves or can be solved by wrestling.

Besides all the IRL stuff that makes WWE gross, their worst tendency is to set up an interesting plot or characters that then somehow have to decide to wrestle instead of whatever else might happen. Half the feuds in AEW are "fuck you, I'm a better wrestler" and so the resolution makes perfect sense

24 episodes in, V Gundam's biggest problem is that it is so focused on these kids and how they are experiencing this conflict that the larger war is obscured to the point of being incomprehensible. Maybe that was intentional, I don't know but it leads to a feeling of events happening out of nowhere.

The films want Thorin to be a great man brought low by a tragic flaw, even the cartoon gestures towards that, but Tolkien to his credit never really imbues him with any heroic qualities and mostly makes him a reasonably nice functionary, which I think makes the turn inevitable rather than tragic.

Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.
