First it was Broward Health. Then it was Memorial Healthcare. And now Cleveland Clinic is advising Florida Blue members that they may go out-of-network next March if they fail to negotiate a contract with the insurance company.

Broward County Florida Blue members are running out of options.

Oh shit! How did I miss this? Rest in power, Jill Godmilow. What Farocki Taught is an all-time great work. I got to spend an afternoon with her, and she was such a unique and exciting person to be around.

With Hasan in Gaza. Second screening tonight at TIFF and one not to sleep on. Really extraordinary feat of filmmaking as an act of recovery, investigation, and testimony. Don’t think I ever seen a more powerful film at the fest.

This is just straight up totalitarian. This demand that nobody ever say anything potentially alienating to Midwestern apes lest the fascist right might turn it into a political issue, is without realizing, the same thing the fascists are. A complete submission of civil society to the partisan agenda
It would be a huge step forward for Democrats and for general clarity in political writing if these terms went away. These came mostly from academic hothouses.

Multiple times this year I’ve had coffee with fellow immigrants who grew up in corrupt third world countries and the shared sentiment has been that Americans don’t understand how bad things are going to get.

I don't enjoy facing the truth about the Supreme Court, either, but if I believe anybody, I believe Sherrilyn Ifill. Read this, and sign up for the webinars.
NEW PIECE IS UP.
I don’t enjoy facing the truth about this court, but it must be done.
Yesterday’s decision in McMahon has me convinced.

Hope you’ll sign up for the September webinars. We need the people - not just lawyers - to understand what’s at stake. open.substack.com/pub/sherrily...

So grateful for the clear, unequivocal witness and voice of Rep. @maxwellfrost.bsky.social who visited the horrifying detention camp in Florida. As he said, “I didn’t see any Russians who’ve overstayed their visas. Only Black & Latino men who look like me.” @maddow.msnbc.com

UPDATE: The Los Angeles Press Club has filed suit against the city of Los Angeles and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell in the Central District of California's federal courts over its actions toward journalists covering anti-ICE protests in recent days.

Veteran photographer Michael Nigro was shot in the head with a non-lethal bullet while covering anti-ICE protests in LA. "It felt very very intentional," Nigro tells NPR, "a chilling effect to convince us to go away."

Other reporters say they have been targeted too.

The Los Angeles Press Club says law enforcement officers have violated press freedoms of reporters covering anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles more than three dozen times. https://n.pr/3Zw0tPg

I did an event in DC & there was a party for donors etc after. Was talking to 2 ppl & I said "Things are so bad." They said "No this is how it is. Things swing one way, then another. It's normal."

That's when I realized why Dems are toothless. They have no idea what this is. Frogs boiling in water.

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.
