Might as well make the first post more than hello. Jack Leiter has been reinstated from the development list and will make his first start since July 7 for AA Frisco. 1pm CDT.
According to @bgawlowski.bsky.social (until recently a scout for the Pirates, now back in the writing biz), Arizona has two must-adds for the 40: Mitch Bratt and Kohl Drake. 😛 blogs.fangraphs.com/2025-nationa...
2025 National League 40-Man Roster Crunch Analysis
A month out from the Winter Meetings and the Rule 5 Draft, it’s a good time to evaluate everyone’s 40-man roster situation.

Add-on in the Christian Villanueva trade finally quits.

I wrote about how the Rangers' offense was much closer to league-average than bad in 2025, how that's more annoyance than comfort, the ways in which luck & weirdness conspired against the team, and how to view the offense in terms of building for 2026.

Saw a guy in a Texas Nomar Mazara replica jersey out in public today.

Something I'd typed but hadn't posted yet: "Harris had a vastly improved second half in AAA and earned a return to the 40, but the underlying metrics were still frustratingly underwhelming." McKinney didn't appear on any arb lists I saw but was eligible (3+ years), obviously wasn't getting tendered.
@TXRangersPR tweeted
Rangers transactions for Wednesday:

- C Willie MacIver and RHP Michel Otañez (pronounced "mee-CHELL oh-TAWN-yez") acquired from the Athletics via waiver claim
- OF's Dustin Harris and Billy McKinney cleared waivers and are now free agents

The Texas 40-man roster has dwindled to 35 and still includes some likely non-tenders and guys with tenuous holds on their spots. Free agents will be incoming, of course, but in general, the Rangers have more-than-ample room for 40 additions.

Had to pour a little anxiety tequila for the first time in two years.

First image is the moment Barger began to slow down. Second is the moment began to retreat to second. Arrow shows the ball. Third is when LF Hernandez has released the ball.

If you look up Lee Greenwood on Spotify the third item is Bad Bunny.

Texas’s high-A team had a doozy in 2011 (pre-bonus runner). Myrtle Beach struck out 32 Kinston batters and lost. Wouldn’t happen again even under old rules. Managers would start using position players on mound by the 13th or so.

Some baseball clubs swap between experience and youth when making a managerial change. Some swap between calm and fiery. The Rangers swap between bald and (relatively) hirsute.

Garcia did not hit 50 homers. 6 fewer than last year’s 25, in fact, and an OPS decline of 20 points. Defense was much improved so he had some value. But he’s not a shortstop, and there’s a point at which, if you’re managing, you just can’t write that name anymore.
Adolis Garcia said his goal is to hit 50 homers this season. He shared that his knees feel healthy and strong and that he’s worked on improving his bat speed.

2023 avg bat speed: 73.5 mph
2024 avg bat speed: 72.0 mph

Rangers 8, Guardians 9 (10). The Rangers finish the season 81-81. So... yeah.

Rangers 2, Guardians 3. The Rangers are 81-80.

Highlight to a frustrating season is Jacob Latz grabbing a rotation spot. Struck out the side after an out-or-bust dive by inexperienced LF Cody Freeman.

Rangers 7, Guardians 3. The Rangers are 81-79 and have guaranteed a non-losing season (and inadvertently assisted the Astros, but oh well).

Can't say I called it (plus this was a month ago) but it crossed my mind. Review of AAA home debut: "Jose Corniell was good in AAA today, not overpowering (7 whiffs) but had everything working together, lots of weak contact and pops. FB 94-97, upper 80s cut, 85-88 change, 79-83 slider."
Probably would be more inclined to call up Jose Corniell (on 40) or David Davalillo (will be added) from Frisco. But counting on much from either right now is an ask. Plus Corniell is on post-TJ restricted workload.

This situation calls for one man. Dallas Keuchel.
