When pregnant woman boarded a subway car, 38% of the time someone offered her a seat. If someone dressed as Batman was also in the car it rose to 68%.

The Batman effect: The mere sight of the 'superhero' can make us more altruistic
If "Batman" appears on the scene, we immediately become more altruistic: in fact, research conducted by psychologists from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, shows that the sudden appear...

Here's my piece for @lawfaremedia.org on my experience covering the Sandwich Guy trial. Warning: longer than 280 characters!

Sandwich Guy, Thrower of Hoagie–Or Hero?
The trial ended in an acquittal. But the proceedings felt like a strange sort of performance art—highly amusing and highly menacing at the same time.

"the menswear guy isn't fair and balanced." do you even hear yourself?

"fork lady is eroding public confidence."

"ladder baby is undermining the credibility of the field."

"lemon raccoon is acting without transparency or accountability."

that's what you sound like.

it's real weird to have witnessed my parents being tech illiterate, growing up as "the tech native" generation only to see younger generations being, uh, not that much more tech literate in a way that feels scary.

A very hungry planet! 🪐

What appears to be a ripple in space is actually a newborn planet, eating its way through its dusty cradle around a younger version of our Sun 🌞

Wait, is this -- is this real? They actually published a list of books that may or may not exist? (The Last Algorithm by Andy Weir is, for example, not an actual book!) Please, jfc, tell me this isn't real. I'm not finding it online anywhere, which makes me hope it's fake? Gotta be fake, please?
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

I, for one, welcome the “abundance” fight. It shows the left can fight Trumpism while wrestling with how we can be better than we’ve been.

I have no interest in “actually the government has been doing great” liberalism.

this is exactly why i still buy discs in 2023. it's crazy to think that we are reaching a point where piracy will be the only option to own media once dvds and blu-rays are gone.
