My book just celebrated its first birthday! 🎉 One of the biggest highlights of the year? The legendary internationally bestselling author Patricia Cornwell 🥰 not only bought a copy but also generously promoted The Darkroom on all her social media accounts!

A surreal moment I’ll never forget 🙌 📖

I'm listening to Margaret Atwood’s #memoir and it’s brilliant!

She narrates it with warmth, wit, dry humour, gentle irony, and moments of great tenderness. What a brilliantly observant mind she has. Even at 26 hours long this book is an enormous pleasure to listen to. 🎧📚

I’ve noticed that crime #writers often overlook smells in their crime scenes, but they’re such an important part of every investigation. Smells, whether it’s decomp, chemicals, or something else, tell the CSI team so much about what has happened. Don’t leave them out! #CrimeFiction

What Do Wild Birds Eat In Winter

Wild #birds have a difficult time throughout the #winter. Food becomes scarce. Insects hide. Seeds disappear...

A simple feeder, a few safe foods, and a sheltered spot can help birds stay warm and healthy all season.

Winter can be tough for birds. Cold, snow, and frozen ground make food scarce. Even a few seeds in a feeder can help them survive and thrive. ❄️🐦

I’m reading a crime novel where the killer "choked his victims into unconsciousness" and later in the book "choked her to death." 🙄 That’s incorrect and surprising mistakes for a high-profile author. His research team should have caught it.

For crime fiction #writers: Death from pressure on the neck is called strangulation, NOT choking. Choking is accidental, caused by an internal airway blockage (food, vomit). It’s an easy mistake, but the terms are not interchangeable.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 6:
Real agents don't seek out authors to represent.
Real publishers don't seek out authors to publish.
Neither agents nor publishers should ask authors for money. Publishers pay authors an advance plus royalties: agents take their cut from the deals they make for you.

Enjoyed watching 'The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard' but spotted a big police procedure error.

Did you notice it? 👀

(Yes, I know — creative licence is a thing! 😉😊)

#American & #Canadian friends, please avoid buying The Darkroom from Amazon US or Canada. It’s NOT officially published there, and third-party copies don’t earn me or my publisher anything. For legit copies at fair prices see UK & intl bookshops: www.ajhewittauthor.com/buy-my-book

You don't need to write every day: you just need to keep your imagination alight. Feed it with books, with art, with films and theatre. That way it will always be ready when you need it.
