Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.
France also gave us this land as American soil.

And most of them were recruited by Nichelle Nichols who played Uhura in Star Trek. She headed a volunteer panel NASA put together to recruit highly qualified women. Dr. Sally Ride was her first recruit.

I've covered Van Hollen since circa 1999. He's actually not a "grandstander." In his first Congressional bid, he was the workhorse vs the showhorse. He out-hustled Mark Shriver who had far more money and had been on the cover of Time Magazine as a next-gen Kennedy. He won with an army of volunteers.
