1/2 Ok, new plan: show up at Seattle Council public comment on Tues 7/29 at 2pm and, pretending to be landlords, say "Council President Nelson, this is not what we have paid you to do! Renters have little money and should therefore have little voice! Your council has worked so hard to
We need to show up to Monday's Special Council Mtg @ 9:30am & the 2pm Council Briefing w/a clear & righteous message: "Renters are over half of Seattle residents. You chose to use your power to render our meetings non-functional, we now chose to use our power to render your meetings non-functional."

The committee was also set to vote today on accepting several million dollars in housing grants. If they can't vote today, that significantly increases the likelihood of missing a mid-August HUD deadline and puts those funds in jeopardy.

Because, you know, housing isn't an issue that's especially important in Seattle...
The city's housing committee, headed by Mark Solomon (and previously Cathy Moore), was unable to meet officially today because committee members Sara Nelson and Rob Saka won't go to the meeting, denying the committee a quorum. Saka is currently sitting in his office.

Big swing from Harrell but (having seen what we’ve seen) zero chance he’d keep programs and promises if elected.

If only we’d would work for free, from WSJ: “A higher minimum wage raised the cost of food and other basics, while rich union contracts keep transportation inefficient and costly. Climate bans and mandates have raised energy costs.”

As much as I loved spending the afternoon in court fighting for folks at Cal Anderson to be released from jail, this situation was completely avoidable—Seattle *never* should have granted a permit for anti-trans bigots to spew their rhetoric at the PNW’s most iconic safe haven for LGBTQ folks.

Important background is that Sara Nelson, back in September 2024, pushed Barnett to recommend ethics code change. Heated emails here: www.thestranger.com/news/2024/11...
The Seattle Council is likely to take its first vote on a controversial ethics bill allowing disclosure instead of recusal. Councilmember Hollingsworth appears to be trying to find a way to support it, proposing a more narrowly tailored recusal requirement.

Capitol Hill says it’s in crisis—just don’t put a crisis center there. Molly Moon and local business owners packed a meeting to oppose King County’s plan for a 24/7 mental health facility in the old Polyclinic. The problem’s real—they just want it somewhere else.
