The committee was also set to vote today on accepting several million dollars in housing grants. If they can't vote today, that significantly increases the likelihood of missing a mid-August HUD deadline and puts those funds in jeopardy.

In the context of a recent takeover of the paper and attempts to unionize, this doesn’t sound quite like a “possible ethical violation.” More like a more conservative publisher’s convenient excuse to get rid of popular and outspoken reporters.
