NERC: We need to open up environmental science! Why is it not diverse?

Also NERC: We're scrapping Independent Research Fellowships, New Investigator Grants, Small Grants, are limiting applications from institutions based on past success rates and will only allow you to submit your proposal once.

Our Euro Cup hopes have petered out as a superb performance by Poland leads to us slipping to a 91 run defeat. We finish on 9 points, the same number as the tournament winners, but a little behind on Net Run Rate. Victories over Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine leave us proud.

@eageo.bsky.social not really doing a great job for their remote "presenters" - i.e. they aren't presenting, just putting a video together which will be buried on the conference website. No engagement with the in-person attendees, not even played during the oral session. Not worth the money.
As previously advised: remote talks will NOT be played or presented live in oral sessions in Prague. More info on the conference format: conf.goldschmidt.info/goldschmidt/...

New research! rdcu.be/emGpq
We use Si and Ti isotope compositions of ancient continental crust to infer that continents started to poke their heads above sea-level (so providing nutrients to the oceans and mediating atmospheric CO₂) ~3.8-3.6 billion years ago. @earthscista.bsky.social @unibe.ch

Another fantastic example of the fact that, as long as you have a posh accent, you can get away with saying the most moronic shite
Academic James Orr trying too hard to be the new Matt Goodwin abt town. Claims: "There's been a lot more people that have got into trouble in the UK for free speech offences, than in Putin's Russia."

That is pro-Putin, Trumpian disinformation from the UK right. #PoliticsLive

I absolutely despair with our current government, I really do. I had so much hope, but all their decisions seem to be based on what's good for the Labour party, and not what's good for the country. 😞

Fantastic news! As many of my colleagues know (and are probably tired of), I'm often spreading the gospel of Arran's amazing geology.
Congratulations to Arran Geopark on being awarded
🗻 UNESCO Global Geopark 🏔️status!

It’s fab to see Arran being recognised for its unique geological heritage, rich biodiversity, and commitment to protecting their natural heritage.

The Labour Party: rushing in to save the British steel industry while letting the far larger university sector implode, because they have reasoned that the former is more important to potential Reform voters than the latter. So much for centrism and “the adults being back in the room”, hey?
