I don’t share this for sympathy or advice.

I’m an exceptional teacher with a decade of experience. I’m doing phenomenal work in my classroom and in my school. My students are thriving.

And I cannot enjoy any of it because I’m running on empty all the time.

Most of us are not in a position to do anything huge or earth-shattering to combat the creeping fascism, and so things feel really hopeless. It feels impossible that something huge enough to save us will come along. It feels like there is nothing we can do to make it happen.

But. 🧵

The existence of the song "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" in the animated Grinch movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch implies the existence of a Who Jesus.

So I asked AI what that might look like.

You're welcome. God bless us, every one.

Kelly is one of the nation's foremost experts on bans, and it was a pleasure to chat with her!

This looks more like HISD's current libraries.
I asked #GoogleGemini for a cartoon picture of a library...

Uhhhhh no, redo! A library is a place of joy!

First, they came for librarians. Now, the #Texas State Legislature is coming for booksellers with Senate Bill SB 88. So, if a 17-year-old wanders into our art section and looks at a book containing a nude photograph/painting, we could be prosecuted. #bannedbooks #bookstore #bookstores #censorship

Freedom Trail audio tour app: Now, look to your left! Do you see a Chipotle? 😄

Me: 😒
I am planning out some things to do in Boston when I'm there for #NCTE and I found something called Old Corner Bookstore. It's in a 300-year-old building.

"Oooh!" I thought to myself. "I want to go there!" But I couldn't find a website or anything else about it.

Friends, it is a Chipotle now.

I loved what Ada Limon had to say about writer's block in her talk at #NCTE24 today: "It is not so much that you don't have anything to say; it's that you have so much to say."

We have to take time to sort through the overwhelmingness of it all, time to let one good idea at a time shine through.
