My 9-yo and I wrote the cover story for Interzone #303, and we've created this handy synopsis using legos. Pictured: shark wearing a mech suit made of pirate shipwrecks, attacking a surfer on a chainsaw board. Oh, it gets weirder.

Gone Lawn was one of the first journals that made me want to be a part of this flash community. I remember reading every story in an issue a few years ago and thinking “This is what I want to do!” (And then quietly dreaming of someday being published there…) Let’s help them keep going!
Hate this sort of thing.

Dark times keep getting darker. If you like Gone Lawn and you have the means, consider a donation to keep us going, even something small. Thank you.

Apex's Kickstarter is looking a little dodgy right now and listen, I know times are weird, but there's no magazine doing more at the bleeding edge of spec fiction than Apex; there's no one more important in this space. If you back one thing this year, it should be Apex.

He was like "It's a normal phase, to make terrible art as an adolescent," and I was like [kidding around] "Of course *I* didn't have that phase," and my wife chirps "Oh, so is that why you're doing it now instead?"

anyway

goodbye forever

I regret to say that I did indeed used to think Theo was a nice boy

I realize this reflects poorly on me

in my defense it also reflects poorly on God’s Cruel Joke, which literally publishes stuff like this all the time

truly shameful

My 9-yo is all "I built a lego shark wearing a mech suit made from pirate shipwrecks"
I'm like, what?
he's all "He fights surfers on chainsaw surfboards!"
I'm like, should we write this down?
now it's the cover story on Interzone

is fuckin terrific. I think it's weird horror? At no point does anything I expect happen, almost even on a word-to-word level.

We're watching Frozen for the first time since the pandemic, when we watched it about a thousand times with our then-toddler, and wow does it make me feel weird. Pandemic vibes, this sort of wistful lonely deal.
