In an earlier paper—titled Types of common R&D partners and knowledge leakage to rivals: The role of IP litigation—we (w/ Rene Belderbos, Victor Gilsing) showed how knowledge leakage may occur between rivals through indirect ties, while a strong IP litigation reputation may restrict such spillovers.
