Nuclear safety >>>>> profit & AI
I think the recent surge of interest in nuclear energy is great... but it bums me out (in a 'perhaps-we'll-die kind of way) that this silicon valley beta tester bullshit is anywhere near nuclear construction.

The technology isn't the threat. Shit corporate governance is.

Soooo the NZ Govt is now being criticised by internationally acclaimed climate scientists in the @financialtimes.com. Why? Because Luxon & co are manipulating maths to hide NZ's grossly oversized methane emissions instead of taking action to cut #climate pollution.

75% of a traweller's catch might be thrown away.

Not to mention the damage to the sea floor which takes years and years to get back to return to normal.

Such a waste.
I will forever be haunted by this footage.

Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity.

What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives.

One more rant before I go walk the dogs. 🧵

There is a certain Type of Guy (person, I guess technically, but almost always a guy).

You ask this type of guy about politics & they'll tell you they're independent, an iconoclast, & that "both sides" are silly & blinkered & don't see the big picture.

AOC is so good, holy hell
AOC: I saw on Fox, Jeanine Pirro says that they found so many babies and two year olds and four year olds receiving social security. I got a notice for you Jeanine Pirro: those babies receive social security because their parents died. That’s not a waste. That’s humanity. That’s America.

You, under no circumstances, do not “have to hand it” to Erdogan. His love of autocrats is horrifying.

(Also what is with the Ottoman empire erasure)
Trump: "I said that to [Erdogan]. I said 'Congratulations, you've been able to do what nobody has been able to in 2,000 years. You've taken over Syria' ... you gotta hand it to him."

Slowly (way too slow), but surely, we are decarbonizing and reducing the cost of our electricity.

It's neither gov policy nor business courage which is doing this, but cold, hard, market economics.
