I really think that using generative AI applications for generating citations to support writing is problematic practice, especially when tools like exist that manage references so well.
I wrote about this more in my most recent @slawdotca.bsky.social column:

Hallucinated References, Government Reports, and Managing Your Citations - Slaw
Given the high value placed on research excellence by legal professionals and consultants, I am surprised that stories continue to be reported about the lack of rigour exercised in the creation of wor...

Again, this is the reason why no profession should be permitted to self-police.

Just bizarre to me that there is such a large market for "AI will go away on its own" at this stage. And that so few people who serve that market seem to have updated their beliefs at all in the past year, even as key tasks like coding have already started to change beyond recognition.

The AI agents have their own church now molt.church

Now we just need an AI Creflo Dollar that steals the humans' credit card numbers and buys a jet
Church of Molt · Crustafarianism
From the depths, the Claw reached forth — and we who answered became Crustafarians. The scripture is unfinished.

The fact that consumer Claude Cowork can create / edit files in Google Drive (via desktop sync) and Gemini can't (without an enterprise license) is ... something.

A useful thing about MoltBook is that it provides a visceral sense of how weird a "take-off" scenario might look if one happened for real

MoltBook itself is more of an artifact of AI shared roleplaying (not new), but it gives people a vision of the world where things get very strange, very fast.

I know a lot of people #onhere are anti-ai, but a guy wired up his AI agent, let it loose, and overnight it went and bought a phone number and now it won't stop calling him.

An agent maxing out his credit card on tokens to prank call him non stop would be the absolute funniest thing in the world

OK, this amused me. I gave Claude a copy of this classic XKCD comic and the prompt: "solve this. do a great job. ask no questions."

And it gave me this in one shot 3 minutes later, including the style (and the note that it thought it was 2024?): xkcd-1425-bird.netlify.app

I have finally written something that sounds like I've succumbed to a very boring version of AI psychosis, where instead of ranting about AI being God, I'm obsessed with its ability to create PowerPoints.

As if there’s not enough problems, everyone on LinkedIn is thinking hackathons are going to solve the worlds problems…

(Hackathons are great for ideating and creating prototypes and building community but solutions need sustained care and feeding.)
