I wish I'd achieved more in my first 100 days. It took Liz Truss only half this time to wreck the economy, double everyone's mortgage and resign. By this point Boris Johnson had lied to The Queen, illegally prorogued Parliament and lost 15 votes in the Commons.

@alastaircampbell2.bsky.social When they say that there would have been a backlash if Badenoch hadn’t got through to the final round, what do they mean?

Wilton's Music Hall is on the Rag Fair walk. Graces Alley was part of Cable Street's mid-20c red-light district - cafes that were actually brothels. Call the Midwife fans will recall Jenny's horror of the place after Mary has run away from her pimp. 7 Sep. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/women-of-r...

Alongside "who built Hadrian's wall?", another great example of knowledge falling foul of 'common understanding' is scurvy.

The Royal Navy discovered the cure for scurvy, won the Napoleonic War, humanity then lost that knowledge without realising, then got saved by two Norwegian guinea pigs 🧵 /1

Some thoughts on this (which I'm sympathetic to despite my source of income):

The challenge with issue polling is whether your goal is to accurately reflect public opinion of a policy or "demonstrate support"
sometimes i think that issue polling is the worst thing to happen to progressives

I don't normally watch videos on SM, but this one had me captivated from the outset.
Perhaps incredibly, one of the big themes of everyday American life right now is political radicalisation. It is commonplace, underreported and tearing families apart. Our @thenewsagents special report from Indiana. Watch below. youtu.be/ON3jNi5-ZFs?...

I love her, your honour! 💙
And, unless I'm much mistaken, a bicycling costume for women consisted of bloomers. So she was really bucking the trend!
#OnThisDay, 24 Aug 1896, an unknown woman cyclist has a beer at the bar in New Jersey - making headlines in the New York Times.

Chapeau!
