Dr Sally Bashford-Squires
@sallysquires.bsky.social
Lecturer at The University of Greenwich& social scientist with a background in critical public health. Chair of NGO operating in Uganda.
Thrilled to have my documentary ‘Eitai’ shortlisted for screening at the ISA in Rabat in July.
Filmed in rural Uganda, Eitai is an Ateso word for community togetherness. The documentary, based on my PhD findings, highlights the need to listen to Indigenous voices to mitigate the climate emergency.

My Ugandan friend has been refused a visa to visit the UK. She is an HIV/ AIDs counsellor who works for The Aids Support Organisation
She has no right of appeal
When I visit Uganda I will sail through the visa process. My friend is still excited about my visit. Would I have felt so forgiving?

Farage’s refusal to condemn Musk’s outrageous statements shows total unfitness for public office. But @bbclaurak.bsky.social fails to hold him to account & allows whole interview to be on his terms. No focus on Reform’s divisive policies & no effective challenge to his dangerous insinuations

Farage pours poison into the ear of the uber-toad Musk.

The toad amps it, garbles it, and then spews it forth.

Cue outcry.

Farage shrugs. Spread his palms helplessly. Says “free speech”and “What can I do?”

And happily watches the poison spread.

Rinse and repeat.

Fox closed her eyes, felt the cold on her face
She smiled at the darkness, lost in winter's brace

Solstice had come, the promise of more light
Nature's cycle was done by end of this night

She wished all souls love with the return of the sun
and #SolsticeBlessings for everyone

Happy Winter Solstice to all in the northern hemisphere.

The turn of the year's tide, a pivot-point, a day of hope—when the dark stops rising & after which the Sun begins its slow climb back.
A day I celebrate more than Christmas or New Year.

Fiat lux!

This is the first platform where I have used ‘Dr’ as my title having just passed my PhD a couple of weeks ago. I’m not sure that I’ll keep the title there- I just wanted to know how it might look! 😊

I feel like my first post on here should feature my crazy Sproodle. He is a rescue called Teddy and he is one of the loves my life but also the most irritating pickle known to humankind. He’s just eaten a £30 box of chocolates that I thought I’d hidden.
