If it's any consolation (dear @apcbapcb.bsky.social or anybody reading along), I will never act like you're speaking Esperanto ... erm ... unless you were actually speaking Esperanto.
Mention this to the median Evanston boomer and they'll act like you're speaking Esperanto about events on another planet .

As someone who has used Esperanto daily for decades, I never cease to be amazed by comments like this. At the same time, it's clear that this is a very natural reaction to Esperanto.

[check for replies.]
I'm happy to see the comment. Maybe so many people speak English that Esperanto will never be necessary, but then French used to be the universal language (some French people still think it is.)

Why not just learn Esperanto and speak with the people who are already into it?

been dying for someone to get into esperanto with me

Clearly this is meant as a joke, but given the number of white people who speak Esperanto, couldn't you have come up with something a little more clever for the first bit.

Maga Republican shocks café...
Woman with natural hair color shocks...
Person under 35 shocks...
Talented singer shocks...
white boy SHOCKS café by ordering macchiato in PERFECT Esperanto

Lammy - I wonder if you'd clarify what you mean by "good" here. It seems to me that if a person is constructing a personal language, they should follow their interest. If their interest includes scripts, they should follow that. If not, then there's no "good" in doing something that doesn't.

This was a reply to:

Mandarin Chinese is a manufactured language To have a unified Chinese language And it worked (Esperanto not so much)
"A language is a dialect with an army and a navy"

China: Has an army and a navy

Esperanto speakers like me: No army. No navy.

So we have Bovino, whose name means cow, Rubio/Rubujo whose name means garbage can (or "shithole country") - but what can we say about Mike Johnson other than it's a special kind of penis that you can talk into?

I, uh, finished the Duolingo Esperanto course.

As it turned out, wearing sweat pants was a mistake. It was nice to start out, but they're virtually impossible to remove on the road and so by the time I got to work I'd shed everything but a long-sleeve T-shirt on top and I was still too warm.

Temps were much more mild for the ride home.
It's -1C outside and I have to bike to work again. I'm dreading the cold, but at the same time I'm re-assured that every morning so far that I've dreaded the cold I ended up too hot by the time I got to work.

The source of my current dread is I don't know which feeling will be the right one today.

Fun facts don't have to be true to be fun
But sometimes language is poetic
Fun fact: when border patrol ghoul Greg Bovino was a child, his father changed their family name to escape consequences for being a racist piece of shit. They chose the name Bovino, Esperanto for "cow", out of kinship for these huge, brainless, easily-led animals

The problem of trying to speak to waterfowl while at an Esperanto event
True story. I saw a bunch of ducks and I shouted at them in Esperanto: ANSEEEEEEROBLEK

They didn't reply.

Then I figured out why. That's the sound a goose makes. I should have shouted: ANAAAAAAAASOBLEK

If I had, I'm sure it would have gone better.

"That guy" was described as "Esperanto guy".
To be honest, Daniel Kennedy is not the only one who is afraid.
Still tempted to give that guy wedgies I'm afraid

Apparently the Kotava folks didn't like it when I guessed that there were probably 2 fluent Kotava speakers in the world. They tried very hard on Reddit recently to convince me otherwise.

But even they seem willing to admit that there's less than one in the US.
The fact that Kotava has gone just about nowhere in 50 years says a lot, I would say. I don't know how many people speak Kotava - I'd guess less than 10. Certainly it's not enough to write more than one basic course in the language -- which is still only available in French.

Have you thought of Esperanto?

Today I learned that i have a Russian alias: Слюнявец. People use this name to talk about me behind my back in Russian on the Esperanto discord server.

Everybody should have a Russian code name.

As it happens, a linguist is visiting as we speak. I asked him how he unwinds.

After thinking about it a while, he said he watches Evildea expose fake polyglots. He offered that Evildea can be "cringe" -- and he didn't know that Evildea got his start as an Esperanto youTuber.

Myth: CONFIRMED
linguists watch Esperanto cringe compilations to unwind
