If you are motivated by Spanish, by all means learn Spanish - but if you think Eo is a "fake language like Klingon" you were surely learning it for the wrong reasons.
Esperanto is the common language of the Esperanto community. If you're interested in that community, Eo is the language to learn.

I'm sure there's some kind of metaphorical usage in there that I'm not seeing because it hits too close to home - but for my part, I'm happy knowing both Esperanto AND quite a few words in the English language.
