In my experience, survivors working our recovery have little time or patience for moral grandstanding. We're focused on regulating & working our recovery, not telling anyone how they "should" live or what they "should" think. We're realistic about bandwidth & priorities-- our safety depends on it.

Flashbacks mean there's part of us that sincerely believes now is then, we're as vulnerable as we were then, & something NEEDS to be done about it.

Realistically managing flashbacks starts w/ validating those feelings & fears, & supporting & soothing that activated part of us.

You are more trustworthy than your trauma conditioning wants you to believe. You are more reliable than your trauma conditioning wants you to believe. You are more intelligent than your trauma conditioning wants you to believe.

No matter what it's whispering to you right now.

Remember today that your bullies & abusers would love nothing more than for you to keep blaming & shaming yourself for your symptoms & struggles.

Relating to yourself w/ compassion & realism would really piss them off & make them nervous.

That sounds like a plan to me.

Loren Eisley’s name was in the crossword puzzle this morning. I knew him from some mention in one of Kerouac’s books but really knew nothing about Loren Eiseley. This morning I’ve been reading about him and his writing and I feel like I have just discovered Loren Eiseley!!

Survivors of trauma, especially sexual trauma, often encounter negative social reactions. Rape myths and victim blaming-- both subtle & overt-- deepen & complicate trauma responses survivors experience from the trauma itself.

It's how trauma becomes complex trauma.

Every time we engage our pain or fear w/ compassion patience, acceptance, & realism, it makes a difference. It makes a dent in the neural pathways that drive our trauma responses. Our vulnerability to future trauma responses is diminished every time we have our own back.

Yes, processing the past is important in trauma recovery-- but so is developing our future. Not enough recovery resources discuss this.

We're not metabolizing the past for its own sake. We're doing it because we have sh*t to do from here on out that has zero to do w/ the past.

Chronic illness folks:

I *know* this is really individual, but does anyone have any recommendations for Android apps that are useful for symptom tracking? I have tried so many over the years and I just can't find one that works.

Contemplating going back to a bujo for this but would rather not.
