I do think it’s interesting that “what does the player want” is something you’re supposed to consider in games, while if you did that in literature or music or like, fucking ceramics, you’re a sellout
If you asked a nation of games developers whether it's rude to "assume you understand what the player wants more than the player does", you would spark a civil war.

Today I tried more ideas to optimize the software renderer prototype for #Playdate and got it into playable FPS.
I need to adjust the lighting since I modified the render resolution, it looks more busy than it should, but I'm happy with the progress.

Did more optimization work on my Playdate prototype. Still slow and the recording is using parts that are still not optimized (lightmap, edge draw, etc) so there's still room for optimization.
I'm not sure if I will continue working on this next year... we will see!

Something that blew my mind is when I learned that some of the box art we got in Europe is the American box art of a Japanese game, because for some reason they decided that Japanese art was not ok for them.

the really heartbreaking thing is when i interview Chinese devs (or Korean devs as well) or even just like network with them I get thanked for treating them respectfully.... and i think that points to a much larger issue that some devs face bc of the way american journalists talk about their work

And as always with software renderers, I found out that texture rasterization is the bottleneck.
