R01 submitted in July 2025. Study section didn't meet in Oct. Latest update on commons. Looks like that not only will SS meet in Jan, but they are trying to get (at least one) council meeting before Jan 31.

With everything awful that's happening in our country and our state, this is the priority of Ohio Republicans: working to legalize raw milk, just a week after an outbreak in Florida that put people in the hospital.
Ohio Republican lawmakers moove to legalize sale of raw milk
Ohio Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill that would legalize the sale of unpasteurized milk. Doctors warn that raw milk causes foodborne illnesses, and the product is banned for a reason.

People who spend their careers writing NIH grants are the literal opposite of grifters.

It is a soul-sucking, brutal process.

The scientists don’t get rich when they get funded. Their salary doesn’t change.

They do it for science. For patients.

You know, to make 🇺🇸healthy.

In the present discussions about NIH and the need for reform, two recurring points I am seeing are:

(1) NIH doesn't fund truly high impact research

(2) NIH needs to experiment with alternative approaches to peer review, particularly for high risk-high impact research

A very troubling incident occurred some years ago and I think the concerns and lessons are important.

My apologies for the length, but it is a complicated story.
