This, I think, is partially because American conservatism has been self-selecting for ideological adherence, loyalty, & disdain for inclusive values for most of my life at this point. When your political project is that focused on uniformity, it tends not to be friendly to innovation or curiosity.
I'm mentioning this b/c the folks who hatched the grand theocratic plot to overthrow American pluralist democracy were smart & sophisticated. That's why it's so astonishing that the people they've picked to push the project across the finish line are such blathering idiots.
