Strategically vital to control of the Red Sea, Israel's gambit is that Somaliland will not only host a few Gazan refugees but also serve as a base for Israeli power through the Horn of Africa and into Yemen.

Urgent update.

Our bipartisan petition to force a vote on a straightforward extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits now has 218 signatures.

Mike Johnson should bring the bill to the floor immediately.

Massive defeat for Mike Johnson. Still has to clear the senate, but this is what Dems wanted all along. Johnson has essentially lost control of the gavel after Epstein and now this. Weakest speaker in history.

One thing regular citizens may not appreciate is how much cost control goes into school districts. As we redo decades-old bathrooms, we're negotiating contractors down from millions to hundreds of thousands in costs. DOGE's anti-school cuts were a joke; the system is already efficient.

Still, Trump does not want a long war in VZ; he wants a 12 Day War where Maduro surrenders, or for Maduro to surrender before war itself. This too matters; 15,000 Marines are not enough to take a country of 28 million. So an ineffectual war, where little changes, is very much on the table.

I'm not making a pro-war argument here, but Venezuela is a lot less about oil than it looks. U.S. producers are already straining under low prices, and there's a lot of spare capacity in OPEC. The global energy market has gone for years without VZ oil; there's no urgency to get it today, or ever.

The sentiment check I got from a three day visit to NYC was more useful -- a hotel bar played Ciao Bella and the staff sang along with it. It's hardly definitive, but that was a 'whoa there' moment that aligned with the polls showing Mamdani's eventual victory.

I used to value social media as a sentiment leading indicator, but now it seems everyone is obsessed with gaming that sentiment. So instead of getting authentic pre-legacy media trends, you get a bunch of bots/grifters trying to manipulate the narrative.

Reading social media politics these days absolutely brain rots me. There's this vibe online that simply never translates over into real life. Some of that is the userbase, but a lot of it is the algorithms.

Something pieces like this miss -- and I don't see many talking about this -- is that our curriculum, at least at the high school level, has been so out of touch with the economy that most kids rightly question why they have said required course load.
