Lost in the (important) national stories, I'd like to share a local triumph: in Upper Darby, PA, we finished a job decades in the making, and completely swept city council. We (including me!) took the school board too.

Netanyahu does not really know what he wants from Gaza except a political narrative that helps him win the next election. The one narrative that doesn't help him is the two-state solution; he will wage war on that too.

More local politics posting: Upper Darby is about to enact an earned income tax and the local GOP is crying hysterically over it. Reality is, they managed to accomplish the feat of both underinvesting and overtaxing the township. Remarkable stuff.

I get the moral impulse, but this muddles reality; MENA is not the Balkans in 1914; no secret alliances are waiting to be activated; Russia and China don't care what happens to Palestine.
Tragically, it is much more like the US domination of Native Americans than anything else.
