Really didn’t expect my first impression of a k-pop girl group to be “damn, they remind me of the Beastie Boys”.

The e-book edition of Riley Black’s (@restingdinoface.bsky.social) is on sale at Amazon for $2.99 right now.

I’ve not yet read it - just picked it up in the sale - but their previous book, “The Last Days of the Dinosaurs”, is terrific - top-tier science writing for a lay audience.

I think Raw Story left the word “Another” out of this headline.

Still a visceral shock to see history books already characterizing the modern US like this, no matter how accurate.

It’s definitely an appropriate time to give Max Headroom a return visit.
Name an underrated film/tv franchise that deserves more love (and maybe a reboot)

This is a fascinating argument. I may have to revisit Gatsby now.
On April 10, 1925, a young writer published his 3rd novel – a commercial & critical disappointment about a man passing for white

100 years later, Pulitzer Prize-winner Wesley Lowery reveals the secret hidden inside a piece of America's literary canon...

And how "The Great Gatsby" became white
Gatsby’s Secret
Read as the story of a passing Black man, "The Great Gatsby" is the great American novel.

I wear suits a few days a week for work, so they’re basically normal clothes for me.

That said, it’s still very uplifting to my spirits to be walking around in a white linen suit on a Friday in the spring.

There was *one sentence* I read yesterday in Dan Ozzi’s “Sellout: The Major Label Feeding Frenzy That Swept Punk, Emo, & Hardcore 1994-2007” that referenced Reel Big Fish, and 30 hours later their “Sell Out” is still on infinite loop in my brain.

Send help.

Holy crap. Grace Elizabeth Hale’s history of the Athens music scene in the 70s and 80s, “Cool Town: How Athens, Georgia, Launched Alternative Music and Changed American Culture” is just so, so good.

Stayed up much too late finishing “Haunt Sweet Home” by sarahpinsker.bsky.social, which I started reading at lunch.

It’s hard to talk about without giving spoilers, but it’s an absolutely terrific ghost story (& more). Absolutely a book that makes me want to grab people by the lapels & rave at.

Finished listening to Grady Hendrix’s “Witchcraft for Wayeard Girls” this afternoon. What an absolute monster of a book. There’s plenty of horror, both supernatural and natural, but also a story of the way society in the 1970s (and now, if maybe less blatantly) casually lies & manipulates girls.

Mike has some excellent advice for dealing with keeping yourself sane while
coping with everything.
OK, I'm going to take the like as a yes.

So, to be clear, this thread hits on three things - dealing with worry, dealing with feeling helpless, and focusing on limited available paths to productively help. Maybe some of this stuff will work for you - all I can say for sure is that it has helped me.
You open to suggestions/advice? Based on how I got through the three times my wife was out playing in combat zones?
