We've arrived at #LDConf in Bournemouth! 👋

Over the next few days, we'll be showcasing our campaign to #MakeHealthEqual and a stark reality: lives are still being cut short by up to 16 years in the UK.

If you're here, come and see us at stand PS7. 📍

Great article from Emma Lewell MP pointing out how she felt from the 2015 welfare vote & how it has haunted her ever since.
I will vote against the Welfare Bill - I don’t want anyone to feel the regret I've had since 2015
I remember walking through the voting lobby in 2015 to vote in favour of the Welfare Reform and Work Bill.

Cardiovascular disease is the single biggest contributor in the gap in life expectancy between the richest and poorest areas in England 💔

Our chance at having good heart health shouldn't be impacted by where we live, our sex, or our ethnicity.

NEW BLOG: What action can we take to tackle England's fraying health?

@jobibby.bsky.social unpicks the findings of our latest briefing on mortality trends, and argues for a shift to prevention-led services and a cross-government commitment to improving the nation's health ⬇️

New @who.int report shows social determinants can be responsible for dramatic reductions in healthy life expectancy.

It includes the vital role of campaigning organisations such as our colleagues @healthequals.bsky.social
World Report on Social Determinants of Health Equity
Preventable life expectancy gaps are worsening across social groups, which are cutting lives short, sometimes by decades.

Housing benefit is frozen from today and this new study from @crisis-uk.bsky.social supported by us at @healthequals.bsky.social shows that it already only covers 2.5% of private rentals listed in England - pushing renters into homelessness or substandard homes that impact their health

Affordable, warm & safe housing is a cornerstone to good health. But too many people don't have an adequate place to call home. 🏠

Inspiring to attend @crisis-uk.bsky.social's #EndingHomelessness APPG today to hear from experts on how unaffordable private rents are affecting people’s health. 👇

Benefits are a lifeline for people living with disabilities & ill health in the UK. 🔴

Any plans to cut them would make the UK's already stark health inequalities even worse.

Here’s what some of our members and supporters have said about the proposed plans to change health & disability benefits. 🧵

What mental illnesses are being ‘over diagnosed’ and who by? And what effect is that supposedly having on claims for PIP which uses a functional not diagnostic test? It’s so important that public & political debates about mental health, illness and social security are informed by robust evidence

From the government, we must see a commitment to building social homes, to investing in housing benefit and to funding the right support to prevent homelessness before it happens.

Workers can’t get well soon without #SafeSickPay.

Today our coalition gave the ‘Get workers well soon’ card & petition signed by thousands to Number 10 Downing Street & DWP HQ.

To strengthen Statutory Sick Pay the Government must raise the rate & stop plans to reduce sick pay for 300,000 workers.

Yesterday we @healthequals.bsky.social attended the @crisis-uk.bsky.social Ending Homelessness Summit. One thing's stuck with me, and that's how Ray, an expert by experience, put it: "a safe home is the start of someone's opportunity to build their life back.. it's a human right, not a human fight".

These are what we call the building blocks of health and wellbeing.
