📚Skybrarians, I am finally getting some support in implementing CORAL. Boss wants to know who else uses it.

Do you use CORAL and are you willing to let me list your institution on a slide for my boss? Especially if you are in California - bonus if you’re a CA community college library.

Many tragedies with the closing of B&T but my colleagues were most upset by the loss of the cat calendar so this year we made our own.

Every 2 hour drive from LA is actually a 5 hour drive.

Our rogue board member is making another attempt to pass a gross, transphobic resolution in “support” of Title IX.

This guy is exhausting me.

I’ve started reading Complaint! By Sara Ahmed (only through the first chapter so far) and I’ve encountered so many paragraphs trying to describe what library folk know as vocational awe.

Lots of validating stories and ideas for higher ed grunts.

I’m so glad I’m not an undergrad right now. Instructors asking students to screen record themselves writing a paper sounds like a nightmare. More surveillance, less freedom for students to figure out their own process.

Too many large vendors treat subscription renewals like it’s their first time working with a public institution.

Do not send me a license with Adobe Sign - I have to get a dean, VP and all of our purchasing office to sign it and they all want the document in a different format.

How I feel walking to the empty seats in the back of the plane because I’m flying into Burbank.

Capping off my time at Core Forum by meeting up with a high school friend I haven’t seen in at least 20 years - there are a limited number of people from high school that I would enjoy seeing again but this person is absolutely one of them! Very excited.

The swag game is low here but I do have to recommend the OCLC pens - smooth and dark ink. Fun color outsides. I steal one every time I walk by their unmanned booth.

I don’t even know what small talk I would make with them if I had to but I will take their pens.

My big goal for this year is to update our study room furniture for flexibility and accessibility so Core Forum has been excellent for information gathering so I can go home and beg for money.

I’m going to attempt saving some energy to visit Meow Wolf after sessions today - I believe in me.

A per diem doesn’t go nearly as far when there are no free meals at the conference 😭
November 13, 2025 at 2:34 PM
Love when the conference is in a city with an airport train.

I have been looking forward to nice fall weather in Denver, so why is it going to be warmer there than it is in LA only for the time I'm at Core Forum?

The last operating door to the library is no longer closing/locking. This is probably fine.

Can we finally begin to dismantle the gerontocracy of the DNC?

subscribed to PBS Passport this year to watch all the British procedurals and Antiques Roadshow.

My only complaint is I wish they had a deeper catalog of older masterpiece mystery shows and classic children’s shows - sometimes a 39 year old woman needs to see Mr Rogers feed the fish to unwind.

Is it the case in every higher ed institution that every little thing has to be a knock down drag out fight’

Like why am having months long (honestly, years long) conversations to get leadership to tell us what toilets on campus flush in a power outage now requiring a union grievance???
October 30, 2025 at 6:45 PM
I’m so tired of being paid so little while people who make so much create more work for me because they don’t think I’m important enough to loop in on information that then requires me to redo months of fucking work.

The Santa Ana winds are here and our campus still doesn’t have an emergency plan for handling power outages despite this being something that happens every year around the same time.

Every year is the year I’m gonna get my data organized so that completing the annual survey is a breeze - last year was not the year.

Annual reminder that newspapers don’t want our money - or they’ve fired everyone who can respond to emails and generate an invoice. The amount of work involved trying to give vendors money is wild.

I was in my office doing my little emails thinking about how on top of things I am when I take my adderall and then our custodian let me know what a great job I did making the morning coffee.
