When you see unhoused people asking for money what you should see is a fracturing of the social contract where an issue (housing) that should be addressed on a municipal or statuary level is instead foisted on individuals in a way designed o put callouses on their souls
man I’m sorry to be all corny here but when I see a “the city is beautiful! There’s more to it than homeless people!” I gotta say you know who’s also beautiful? People who have no place to live & are trying to get by in a system that has turned its back on them & if you don’t see that that’s on you

The fact that mainstream media stopped covering ICE kidnappings in LA isn't because ICE stopped kidnapping (they didn't)

Or ICE slowed down (they have actually increased their tempo)

Or that resistance to ICE slowed down (it never stopped, it grew)

It's the "political showdown" that stopped.

Fobazi’s work had a profound effect on me and helped me rebuild my relationship with librarianship after burning out early on in my career. I reference vocational awe almost daily and introduce the concept to everyone I work with. I didn’t know her personally but I am so grateful to her. Devastating

Resign you spineless coward.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

I’m dead - our payroll department sent certain staff an email saying “we noticed you’re poor - here are some state services you might be eligible for” with links to apply for housing assistance and food stamps.

Forwarding to my union while they begin negotiating salary increases.

There are people doing BlueSky watch parties of #antiquesroadshow and I’m just now finding out about it?!?!?

After having norovirus last weekend I still can’t really stomach coffee and also figured I’d made it through the worst of the caffeine withdrawals by the time I recovered and might as well switch to tea permanently. Less money, less reflux - farewell my lovely bean.

ICE hit some food stands on my street this week in case anyone thinks LA isn’t still getting hit - I’m in the Valley.

I can't stop thinking about this.

Is *ANY* Democratic senator talking about conditioning their vote on measures that would actually free kidnapped people or even improve the conditions of those in concentration camps?

Yesterday was my first day back at work after getting hit with norovirus the literal second I got home from work Friday. Apparently it took out half the library over the weekend. Please wash your hands out there! (Unless you’re planning to shake hands with an ICE agent)

It will never get bad enough for the Democrats to stop trying to appeal to some imaginary white centrist who still needs to be coddled in the midst of all of this shit.

I saw a dept requested for an AI research assistant they want us to purchase and their justification is just “this AI tool would allow us to use AI”.

Is there any other technology where the use is enough justification? Not to do anything with it - just “AI tool would let us use AI tool” money pls 🫴

Writing an expletive filled letter to my senators. I didn’t know I had more anger available for the Democrats but I guess I do.
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.

If there’s ever been a time for Democrats to stand on principles instead of perceived electability…

Are we going to see ELUNA pricing anytime soon? I’m itching to apply for PD funds before they run out. The delay on pricing is odd. 📚

Don’t understand why anyone is talking about ICE lacking training as if that’s the problem.
January 15, 2026 at 5:53 AM
I have friends talking about ordering passport cards in case they’re stopped by immigration. I have trans friends who are scared to travel domestically because they worry their documents will be flagged by Homeland Security.

And the opposition party worries “Abolish ICE” will alienate voters.

When I was a kid the popular feminism was “girl power, girls can do anything boys can do”

According to TERFs in 2026 feminism is “ooh, actually I am very weak and baby and I need the courts to agree that that is true”

Lady - you’re gonna walk into this hotel dining room, yapping at the top of your lungs, disturbing my peace and now that you’re talking shit about people I don’t know you have volume control?

Nearly 10 years since I left Kentucky and visiting Louisville which is still to me the greatest city on Earth - but also missing LA which finally feels like home. Do we have a word for this?!

Big fan of when my cool friends have cool kids. Extra big fan of getting them riled up before bed on a school night.

I introduce colleagues to Fobazi’s work regularly - she radically changed how I relate to the library profession and labor.

We’re heading to Kentucky for almost a month starting tomorrow and starting to feel overwhelmed by the promise of seeing so many people I love and miss.
