So we have the BBC caving to hard-right, pro-Israel pressure and ITV news about to be bought by Sky. The billionaires clearly don’t want us to have impartial TV news…

The BBC is facing a coordinated, politically motivated attack. With these resignations, it has given in | Jane Martinson
The corporation should have stood up to the Telegraph, Trump and the Tories. Now, its enemies know how little it takes for it to fold, says Jane Martinson, professor of financial journalism

This is how transphobia's right wing fuckery blew open basic respect in the UK, there is absolutely no reason to expect now that being "women critical" is not also a protected belief, if you truly do not believe that women should just be reproductive slaves for cis men.
This will be used to abuse.

Be VERY clear, this WILL happen in the UK if Reform get anywhere near power after the next election.
This is a Gestapo & concentration camp system & there is NOTHING to stop Farage doing this here.
If you think it “couldn’t happen here” you are dangerously deluded. It can always happen anywhere.

A man rushed to the Broadview ICE facility searching for his wife. They followed every legal step, but ICE took her into another room and she vanished. He tracked her phone there when the signal died. Police told him to “look up her name online.” He sat in the parking lot, weeping, with no answers.

My husband is an immigrant. Labour are trying to extend the period to be eligible for ILR from 5 years to 10, costing us thousands of pounds on top of the more than £35k he's already paid to be here in student fees, visa fees and NHS surcharge costs
As a Safety manager in the NHS, Labour is most likely making me redundant, and I could lose my house. Making NHS patients less safe in the process.

I am a little late to this, but I have also requested my name and face to be removed from @cyclinguk.bsky.social publicity due to the decision to remove trans women from their awards.
Trans women are women, gender is on a spectrum (and I did a genetics degree), and cycling is for everyone. 🏳️⚧️🚲❤️

Great article on Labour failure.
🖊️ ARTICLE | Reform rides high - but why?
Three years ago, Reform were polling 1%. Today they seem poised for a landslide GE win. How did this happen? And how did Labour fumble an easy layup so badly? Find out in my latest piece: www.statsforlefties.com/2025/11/07/poll-roundup-october

I would put more money on continuing to harvest infinite energy from the sun over assuming that forcing everyone to use The Machine The Lies To You is the steady basis of an entire economy
A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

Was talking to a junior colleague about this exact problem yesterday. I wonder if REF panels (made up of experienced and secure academics) have considered this?
The current REF system really encourages temporary staff to burn down their own careers - either you complete research because you need it for your CV, but an institution can claim any resulting outputs before making you redundant so you've nothing to take elsewhere, or...

Ways that we could reduce teaching costs whilst preserving course integrity:
Allow us to teach some level 3 optional modules to MA students and vice versa - with different marking criteria for L3 and MA.
= More student choice, more research-led-teaching

Compulsory team teaching on every module is perhaps the biggest ever threat to the quality of teaching in UK universities.
It causes chaos on the ground for timetabling, ruins course coherence and turns lecturers into permanent supply teachers. It is pedagogically incoherent… 1/
