"I see so many parallels between choosing curriculum 20 years ago and choosing edtech tools now; lots of hype, flashy claims, and no watchdog."

The endnote about the expectation that teachers take garbage resources and turn them into something useful is a sad insight into what's out there.

I completely agree. The focus on grades over meaningful learning has worsened with online grading’s transparency. Despite years of adding tech for teachers and students, there’s little real evolution in how it’s integrated to improve education. #sschat #bfc530 #edusky
Over the years I have seen so much tech added in the hands of teachers and students, but I do not see any real evolving of tech usage/integration in the classroom. #bfc530

This whole thread is worth sifting through, particularly as we wrestle as a math community as to what is relevant for *all* learners in compulsory education. Happy that the #mnmath community is hitting this head on with new standards including data science! #mtbos #edusky
Probability and statistics would be far more useful to most people long term than a second or third year of using the quadratic equation

Make sure they are not Christmas centric.

Yes, many students may enjoy holiday themed "fun activities" but unless you're at a religious school, you're bound to have at least one student who will feel alienated and likely won't be comfortable speaking up.
🤔 Challenge for #iteachmath teachers this week. 🤔

Make sure when you choose your "fun activities" for the week, that they are ALL related to math. There are plenty of things out there. Maybe we can share some of our mathy games and activities for this week.

Love this guideline!
When making winter decor or activities for my classroom, one question I ask myself is: would I still use this after winter break?

If the answer is no, it’s probably more holiday themed than winter themed. #EduSky
