Former HS Math teacher looking for my next role. I write about math, education, music, food, parenting, travel, tinkering... all with a side of snarkiness, sarcasm and self-deprecation.
Pinned
Over my last 7yrs in the classroom I wrote guided, student centric lessons for all of Alg2, PC & AB Calc

Nothing overly creative, pretty standard curriculum/concepts, but it got students to engage with the material & make connections without explicit teacher instruction

Apparently taking 4 weeks off to play in a neutral site against a team coming off a tune-up game is not an advantage.

First 2 rounds should have the higher seed at home.

I think Michigan had the scouting report for the wrong Manning. This one can run.

Somebody called me a grinch and blocked me for expressing a dislike of Christmas cookies.

I stand by the claim that they're trying too hard.
11 months out of the year, powdered sugar, sprinkles and/or frosting is viewed as messy & unnecessary, but somehow in Dec is viewed as a cookie fixture!??
What’s the funniest reason someone got mad at you on Bluesky this year?

Apparently ages ago I decided to Kickstarter a new pepper grinder (ours had plastic gears & left pepper droppings all over the place, this is all metal/wood with a little magnetic catch cup at the bottom).

Well, it arrived today... not sure it's worth what i paid, but it's pretty damn cool.

Ruin two bands by combining them

Milli Vanilla Ice

(Although I'm pretty sure they both ruined themselves just fine solo)

The Internet is amazing. I would not be surprised if it's even written with Calibri.

Granted they started the season 6-2 and have gone 1-7 since... But "buckling" feels a little harsh.

Brady on the call with a tuck-rule fumble... this should be interesting.

Unpopular opinion- if you're going raise your kids to believe in Santa, then the gifts "he" gives should be uniformly smaller.

What lesson are you teaching your children when one family says "Santa brought you a new bike!" & then "he" gives something far less expensive to another, poorer, family?

Is the plus side of a horrific xmas day NFL slate that maybe all the obscure NFL providers (in this case netflix and amazon) get out of broadcasting NFL games and limit fans to requiring 6 subscriptions to watch games?

(I know the answer is no... but let a Jew have a Christmas dream)

Apparently people are including code that simulates the effects of weed, ketamine... when interacting with AI to get it to loosen up its replies.

I fed Gemini the article and asked for a creative visual representation. This is what I got.

Things i may have discovered tonight while playing around with open tuning on my resonator...

Dylans "Simple Twist of Faith" and "Make You Feel My Love" are pretty close to the same chord progression just one step apart.

Dr. Oz: "You'll notice, President Trump, these are discounted from $242 to $10. I don't know what the math is on that. We can't even calculate it. It's too high to calculate."

Change/original
232/242= 95.8%

Not quite the 1500% that was previously claimed, but at least you get a free math lesson.

Tulane lost to Ole Miss in the regular season 45-10... did anybody expect a dramatically different outcome in the playoffs? (41-10)

I get wanting to give small conferences a seat... but how many games vs top-25 teams did the entire ACC win all season?

Happy winter solstice to all of those who believe in... sunlight?

As a mixed home, we let the kid celebrate Xmas & chanukah with the grandparents & we host a solstice party for friends.

Good times. I smoked 8lbs of chuck roast & made burnt ends. Forgot to take a pic, but they vanished rapidly.

I understand better than most (math major and taught math for 20 years...) that the odds are basically zero and in essence it's throwing away money... but the momentary hope of winning $1.5 billion (yes, I understand taxation) is worth the $2..

Don't doom scroll when you're half asleep....

"*my* mom? L"
"custom news?"
"When did Westword (local, Denver news site) go The Onion?"
...
"this writer was a child of the 90s"
"Yo momma jokes are back?"

(For the record- your mom's house is... well was... a legit local establishment

I will always enjoy watching an influencer be (in theory) humbled by a professional.

There are shortcuts to get rich and famous... there are rarely shortcuts to be a master of one's craft.

Just got a new task from my bosses boss.
"I just got a task from [immediate boss] too, which should i prioritize?"
"I'd say mine is higher priority but [boss] would say the same of hers"
"Okay, I'll shoot to do half of both then you can both be half pleased & half disappointed"

The House GOP package would allow small businesses to band together to buy coverage through association health plans in an effort to lower premiums.

Pooling to reduce costs, genius.

What if we did one massive group... like say, the whole country?

Think of how much we could reduce the cost then.
