Former HS Math teacher looking for my next role. I write about math, education, music, food, parenting, travel, tinkering... all with a side of snarkiness, sarcasm and self-deprecation.
Pinned
Over my last 7yrs in the classroom I wrote guided, student centric lessons for all of Alg2, PC & AB Calc

Nothing overly creative, pretty standard curriculum/concepts, but it got students to engage with the material & make connections without explicit teacher instruction

What do you notice? What do you wonder?

I notice mountain effect is real.

I wonder if anybody thought through the impact of having the low end and high end of the color scale the same color...

Reading through a contract

10. Employees shall supply at its sole expense, all equipment,
materials and/or supplies to accomplish the work to be performed.

Make it make sense

I have an idea... what if we used the ICE approach on the Epstein files?

Anybody that is remotely suspected of wrong-doings (you know, liked named in files suggesting they were somehow a part of anything), we forgo due process, kidnap them and then figure it out after the fact?

I love living in a state with salary transparency laws.

A company reached out for me to do some freelance work for them, "what's your desired hourly rate?"

"What is your anticipated hourly rate? Given Colorado's transparency laws, compensation range should be provided by the employer"

Does anybody else just buy random protein on sale and then get home & figure out what to do with it?

The other day i picked up some “center cut beef shanks,” today I decided to smoke them for some flavor infusion & then braise to finish…

Which is apparently basically a smoked Osso Bucco

Who knew?

Happy Thursday.

On the struggle bus & desperately hoping my coffee kicks in, I was reminded of this gem (& Mike Dillion shredding the xylophone)

"now I'm older, brighter, wise beyond my years
Least I feel that way when I got my hot coffee in a paper cup"

I finally broke down and got another set of matching spice jar in order to complete the spice drawer

(I have jars for the little boxes in the corner but figured it wasn't worth transferring the little that was left in each...)

As a parent, good on you kid... but haven't we talked about only texting during school if it's an emergency?

As a former teacher, I can only imagine how his teacher is just thinking how this 10yo kid is such a pain in the ass.

In the past 45 years there have been 3 super bowl MVPs that were offensive players who didn't score.

The Patriots were involved in all 3.

Deion Branch
SB 39

Julian Edelmann
SB 53

Kenneth Walker III
SB 60

Just got an email from my son's school distract that he has missed an "equivalent of 2.92593 days of school."

Makes me wonder, how do they take attendance to get it down to 5 (FIVE) decimal places?

Down to the minute?
The second?

I opened the fridge this morning & was reminded that I had been thawing a rack of ribs... so it was an impromptu smoking day.

Timing was all off (bc life & a 6 hour cook don't always align...) but they turned out pretty damn tasty.

My great-aunt, the last surviving member of my grandparents generation, passed away. Not a surprise, she had lived a long healthy, complete, life.

She & her husband were the only people from that gen at our wedding 13 years ago. Photographer captured this amazing pic.

The Slip (of old)- Avant jazz/funk.
The Slip (of newer) & Surprise Me Mr Davis- Indie Rock.
The Bar Brothers- folk.
How you know what I want I will never know, but thank you

Turning Point USA has announced the “All American Halftime Show" (in response to American, Bad Bunny, being the official halftime act)

How fitting that their lead performer has lyrics
"Young ladies, young ladies, I like 'em underage, see
Some say that's statutory (But I say it's mandatory)"

I await the movie where Jason Statham has reconstructive surgery to became Liam Neeson.

While we thought their repeated "recluse expert forced out of retirement to find kidnapped girl/wife/daughter" roles were distinct, they're actually just different time periods of the same.
