I've had this chat with PR people and they know that supporting smaller sites and freelancers makes sense and would help build a healthier games media.
The problem is game publishers pretty much exclusively want GI cover stories or an IGN First and anything smaller isn't worth it.

I don't understand this mentality as long as the person/website has reputable people. How does it hurt you to provide a code? With how hard it is to get publicity for games of all sizes even "small" coverage seems like it would only help?

A useful thing to remember with the whole AI art thing is that people fucking haaaaate that artists “get” to make art while they have to go “to work.” You can see it with people losing their shit over artists charging for commissions or berating them for not accepting “for exposure” jobs.

Dan knows more about how Congress works than anyone I know, so this is an interesting thread.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.
1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.
Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

It’s super chilly tonight. Not quite cold enough for a full fire, and turning on the heat would be a waste, since it will be warm again in a day or two. So I threw a fire log in the fireplace and (I thought) opened the flue. Turns out it’d been open all summer and I just closed it! Smoke ensued.

The smoke alarms that came with my house were First Alert garbage. (Battery compartments stuck shut. Failing after less than a year, etc.) Just replaced them with better, smarter Kidde units. Which required requiring the dongles. Pain, but worth it.

I’ve watched in wonder for years as people whisper in private about TGAs, but then line up in droves to be photographed at the event. Curios to see what happens this year.
