The degree to which the American right has shed a sense of shame and openly embraces the most ugly moral stances possible is shocking. Fixing that will mean cultivating a hard cultural turn against such beliefs and using renewed shaming and social exclusion to punish those who hold and express them.

A convicted felon who had also been found liable for sexual assault and committed additional crimes in plain sight was close with a notorious child sex trafficker and likely participated in some of those crimes too got elected with much of that known and spent his presidency railing against “crime.”

Kind of wild that while food assistance was withheld from millions of families, one Trump-supporting billionaire (Ellison) saw his net worth grow more this year than the entire SNAP budget. And the YTD gains of the other four richest men would’ve fully covered salaries for all 2M federal employees.

I actually agree that the GOP was never going to give into the Dems demands, and that they needed to end the shutdown soon.

But, the Dems completely blew the messaging. They could have presented a strong, unified story focusing on the GOPs callous disregard for the average American.
