you already know what's up

(summer game sale rec thread is what's up)

as always, i focus primarily on more obscure, older, and just plain weirder games, as big name titles don't need the help.

with that out of the way: onwards!

Killer7 divided audiences and critics when it came out 20 years ago, but its influence and esteem only continues to grow. Here's @marcnormandin.bsky.social on the lasting impact of one of Suda51's first hits. www.endlessmode.com/video-games/...
Killer7's Influence Continues to Grow 20 Years Later
There’s a difference between shock for shock’s sake and giving players what they don't expect. Killer7 is made entirely out of the latter.

Unsighted is fantastic - buying this game is the best way to help speed up the release of the developer’s next project
UNSIGHTED is 60% off on Steam Summer Sale!

Almost at 1.6k reviews! (5 remaining 😭)

Purchasing UNSIGHTED also helps fund our next game, ABYSS X ZERO!

(For those asking abt crowdfunding: we're fully funding AXZ through UNSIGHTED’s sales, so this is the best way to support us!)

Metro Gravity just fully released (I featured the demo in my last video)

gravity bending, puzzle-focused Pseudoregalia meets rhythmic and musical Sekiro combat

I had a great time with the demo and was blown away by it being a solo dev project. Check it out.

Everyone who likes knowledge-based games should play Leap Year—a very February, 3-hour-long precision platformer with a cool twist and several “aha” moments!

Big shoutout to @ivyroadgames.bsky.social for giving me the chance to preview Wanderstop!

So, is it just a cozy game about making tea? Kinda! But in the 3 hours I got to play, a very relatable story about severe burnout and the road to recovery took center stage. youtu.be/IwUiHYAD75A

Strange thing – the more frustration I get from Void Stranger, the more I wanna dive into this rabbit hole. Just when I thought I had reached the end, the game hit me with a hook that I wouldn’t stop until I’d seen everything in it. And let me tell you, there’s some seriously wild stuff down there!

This world definitely needs more 3D metroidvania/platformers like Pseudoregalia. I especially appreciate it when developers leave room for mastering hidden abilities embedded in the game’s core mechanics

It’s somewhat unfair that Antichamber is rarely mentioned when it comes to knowledge-based games. This outstanding puzzle game features non-linear exploration and is a true masterclass in thinking outside the box. Recommend it to anyone who is into this type of game

Not long ago, The Verge wrote about David Lynch and his influence on video games.

Beyond the obvious Alan Wake, Deadly Premonition, and Disco Elysium, he also managed to inspire The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and indirectly G-Man’s character in Half-Life.

David Lynch’s presence has been haunting video games for decades
Something interesting to think about.

That looks cool! We need more games like Hyper Light Drifter and Unsighted
Fountains was released in December 2024 and available on Steam.
Developed and published by John Pywell.
An action-adventure RPG with a hint of souls-like gameplay balanced together in a weird but good way.

It’s remarkable how little Arco needs to make you connect with its world and characters. The setting is incredibly captivating, featuring quirky fantasy themes woven into a grounded narrative about revenge and cultural preservation, delivering emotional blows when you least expect them

Still got lots to fill in, but I think I've made great progress for one day. Check it out and suggest more additions!

Lorelei and The Laser Eyes (Steam Deck, 29 hours) - a noir puzzle game about our perception of the world through art, where a pen and notebook might prove more essential than a gamepad. Even if you feel a bit mad at times, in the end, you’ll believe you’re the smartest person ever.
