U.S. President Donald Trump provoked outrage and distress among many in the United Kingdom on Friday with his false assertion that troops from NATO countries — other than Americans — stayed away from the front line during the war in Afghanistan. https://to.pbs.org/49Uabzi
'The ultimate insult': Trump diminishing NATO's Afghanistan involvement causes distress in UK
Trump said in an interview in Davos on Thursday that he wasn't sure NATO would support the United States if and when requested. He said that troops "stayed a little back a little off the front lines."

Jayapal: Did your investigation find that Donald Trump attempted to manufacture fraudulent slates of electors in 7 states that he lost?
Smith: Yes.

Jayapal: Did he spread lies and conspiracies to his followers to make them believe that the election had been illegally rigged against him?
Smith: Yes.
Donald Trump spread lies and conspiracy theories to his followers to make them believe the 2020 election was rigged against him, then incited an angry mob to attack the U.S. Capitol to stop the election certification.

These are Special Counsel Jack Smith’s findings.

At the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, the reason the United States of America did not become the Confederate States of America was the courage & sacrifice of the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment who under General Hancock charged the Confederate Army.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

I cannot tell you how absolutely infuriatingly this stuff comes across to Europeans.

When we say America is no longer a reliable ally, it goes considerably deeper than Donald Trump himself. This kind of complacent, condescending shit is a *huge* part of it.

Donald Trump and his coterie dunking on Denmark like this is extremely disgraceful, and something we will never forget.

-- Signed, a Dane.
After Donald Trump disparaged Denmark’s contributions to NATO, one Danish soldier who served in Afghanistan told Isaac Stanley-Becker, “We were on the front lines, the same as the Americans. That was our job.”

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

This is a very grim measure of how bad things are: Every year, some amazing federal public employees receive awards. This year's winners were not asked to speak. The organizers "wanted to protect them from being singled out by Trump administration cost-cutters." www.csmonitor.com/USA/Society/...
These awards honor the best US civil servants. What ‘best’ means may be changing.
Organizations that bestow awards for good governance are adjusting to the Trump administration’s staff cuts and criticism of traditional civil servant values.
