Neurons and β-cells share many similarities, including the expression of very specific transcription factors. This prompted a long-standing search for connections between diabetes and mental disorders. This amazing discovery finally reveals a mechanistic link!

Missed our @eisg2025.bsky.social post? If you study beta cell function using rat islets or INS-1 cells, check out Ri-lnc1! Strongly linked to mature beta cells but missing from current rat genome annotations. Overlooked? Happy to collaborate—just contact us!
Great opening yesterday @eisg2025.bsky.social meeting! Glad to see many interesting talks using INS-1 rat cells to study β-cell function—I couldn’t help but wonder how these treatments might affect Ri-lnc1 expression, our recently reported novel rat long non-coding RNA enriched in mature β-cells 👇

Ten years ago we reported TEAD/YAP as pancreas development gatekeepers in mouse and human. Now we propose adding Glucocorticoid Receptor (GR) to this selective club - with one key difference! It plays the opposite role: GR activation (→ nuclear localization) promotes progenitor differentiation.
