Could the WiFi be any worse on @eurostarnews.bsky.social ? 20 minutes out of St Pancras, and barely been able to load a page on the internet. Reverted to mobile hot spot.

Provisional estimates for road casualties in GB in 2024 released today.

1,633 fatalities (over 30 people a week)

29,537 killed or seriously injured (around 80 people a day)

Couldn't be clearer that a new approach to road danger reduction is needed in the UK's promised road safety strategy.

🧵 A brilliant story:

German Foreign Sec Baerbock about her 1st conversation w/ the Russian Foreign Sec, trying to test & intimidate her.

The Russians intentionally scrambled her line, so it was terrible, but he pretended it was perfect.

Bluffing, she said... 1/2

Apparently only the wealthy should be tax exempt
for some reason I’ve remembered what Jeremy Clarkson, who said he bought land to avoid inheritance tax, said on live TV about striking public sector workers (extra marks for use of ‘us’)

This is so true. Cycling outside of the cities in the UK is where I feel most vulnerable, get hooted and sworn at, and drivers are at their most threatening. The #Netherlands just gets it right.
When discussing #cyclinginfrastructure, we often focus on urban areas, but in most countries, it vanishes outside city limits. In the #Netherlands, however, the best #cycling infrastructure is found beyond urban areas, making long-distance travel between cities by #bike very convenient.

Too true
If you bring central London to a halt in order to campaign against catastrophic climate change then you're a "barmy" eco "fanatic" who deserves to be locked up.

If you do the same to hang on to your multimillion pound inheritance tax exemption then you're a brave freedom fighter defying the odds

So frustrating that one cannot take pets on #eurostar trains. It’s really tricky (& expensive) to take pets across the Channel as a foot passenger.

You’re never too old to learn.
I’ve learned from the Tory media that when the Tories increased taxes for 14 years, to the highest levels since WW2, it was all manageable.
However, now Labour has increased taxes on billionaires who bought land to avoid inheritance tax, it’s an existential threat.

Cars in the U.K are up to 55% larger today than they were in the 1970s and there are twice the number of cars on the U.K's roads as there were 30 years ago, but the media are still running articles claiming that a handful of cycle lanes and LTNs 'cause congestion' in London...🙄
