It's about a girl who had to move to a rural, provincial town she's desperate to get out of. She signs up to be an apprentice for a traveling salesman of dangerous magical artifacts, but then he dies, leaving her with a wagon full of magical stuff she knows nothing about.

It IS a fun setup! And it escalates really quickly, the salesman's dead by chapter 4. There's themes of power, community, life, death, belonging, and family. Magic in this setting is always rare, costly, and dangerous; never simple as a swish and flick.
